What to expect

  • Meet Toby and fellow students at club house, collect coffee on arrival.
  • Walk down to the short game area.
  • Toby to address what to expect in the short game school and how to handle the information overload. All students will have a recap in their Skillest app.
  • Short game fundamentals building your stock chip shot. Toby to address the key fundamentals of set up weight distribution, ball position, how the club needs to have a negative AOA ball first contact unless a high shot. Work these on a basic 15 metre shot our goal is to build a baseline stock shot.
  • How to chose the correct club. Standard shot club, high shot club, chip and run club. Toby to walk through 3 scenarios at 3 different stations. Players to have 10 minutes at each station with 2 players at each one.
  • How to alter flight and spin. Club finish position, narrow or wider shaft in backswing. More friction needed for spin. Train this around the front of the green as a whole group.
  • How to adapt to different lies. Heavy rough, uphill, downhill, bare lies. Set up station in heavy rough on the left hit at the fairway, to the right side of the green, find a bare lie. 3 stations total 2 people at each one.
  • Bunker play. Toby to explain bunker fundamentals. Wider stance, lower handle, open face, lead knee bing the post. 2 players at a time to practice.
  • Short Game Routine. Toby to explain about building a short game routine. Reading the lie, club selection, landing spot, practice swings feeling ground interaction.
  • Watch video above for a look at how my short game school is run.
